How We Clean
Cleaning Rugs to the Fiber
Rugs are not all the same fiber, so they should not all be cleaned the same way. Here is how we work.
Inspect and identify
We check the fiber, construction, and condition, and test for colorfastness, so we use the right method for your rug instead of a one-size approach.
Remove dry soil
Most of what is trapped in a rug is dry grit. We pull that out first, before any moisture, which protects the fibers and makes the clean more effective.
Clean to the fiber
We pre-treat spots and clean with products matched to your rug's fiber, keeping moisture controlled so nothing gets over-wet.
Rinse, dry, groom
We rinse out the cleaning agents, dry with airflow to avoid browning or shrinkage, and reset the pile so the rug looks and feels right.
What We Clean
Rugs We Take On
From the everyday rug in the living room to natural-fiber pieces that need a careful hand.
Synthetic machine-made rugs
Polypropylene (olefin), nylon, and polyester rugs, the everyday rugs in most homes. These handle standard fiber-appropriate cleaning well.
Wool and wool-blend rugs
Cleaned with wool-safe, pH-balanced products and controlled moisture to protect the natural fiber from shrinkage and dye bleed.
Cotton flatweaves and dhurries
Cleaned with attention to the shrinkage and dye bleed that flatweave cotton can be prone to.
Pet stains and odor
An enzyme treatment that breaks down urine and odor at the source instead of masking it. Available as an add-on.
High-traffic and entry rugs
Traffic lanes and ground-in grit from doorways and hallways, the first places wear and soil show up.
Delicate and high-value rugs
Silk, viscose or art silk, and antique hand-knotted rugs are inspected and tested first, so we use the right method or advise specialty care.
Area Rug Cleaning
Brighter Color, Softer Feel
Pulling out trapped grit and soil brings back the color and texture a dirty rug hides.
Representative result. Outcome varies by fiber, age, and the kind of soil or staining.
Optional Add-Ons
Add Treatment Where It Helps
Cleaning is the core service. These are optional, based on what your rug needs.
Pet and Odor Treatment
An enzyme treatment that breaks down urine and odor at the source rather than covering it up. A good add-on for homes with pets. Set-in pet damage in the backing or pad may need more than a surface treatment, and we will tell you if that is the case.
Fiber Protector
A protective treatment that coats the fibers so future spills sit on top longer and clean up easier. Optional, based on the rug and where it lives. We do not apply it to fibers it is not suited for.
Good to Know
A Few Things Before We Start
Some fibers need extra caution
Viscose and art silk (also sold as rayon, bamboo silk, or banana silk), real silk, and plant fibers like jute and sisal are water-reactive. They can yellow, stiffen, or distort when cleaned the wrong way. We identify the fiber and test before we clean, and we tell you the risks instead of guessing.
Not every stain or mark comes out
Cleaning removes most general soil and many common spills. Set-in dye, bleach spots, sun fading, and existing fiber damage may be permanent. We will tell you what we expect to improve and what may not before we start.
How pricing works
Area rugs are priced per rug, by size and material. You get a clear price before any work starts, with no obligation. Delicate or high-value rugs are assessed first so we use the right approach.
